Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about exporting agricultural products from Kenya
How do I start importing produce from Kenya?
Create a buyer account on our platform, browse our KS1758-certified product catalog, and place your order. We coordinate with farmers, handle quality checks, arrange cold chain transport to JKIA, and manage all export documentation including phytosanitary certificates.
What is KS1758 certification?
KS1758 is Kenya's national standard for fresh fruits and vegetables for export. It specifies quality requirements for size, color, firmness, freedom from pests and diseases, and maximum residue levels (MRLs) for pesticides. All our partner farms are KS1758 certified.
What are minimum order quantities?
MOQs vary by product: Vegetables 100-200kg, herbs 30-50kg, cut flowers 50 bunches minimum, fruits 500-1000kg. These minimums ensure cost-effective air freight and cold chain logistics while maintaining competitive pricing.
How long does delivery take?
Farm-to-JKIA delivery is 4-6 hours in our cold chain trucks. Air freight time depends on destination: Europe 8-12 hours, Middle East 4-6 hours, Asia 10-14 hours. Total farm-to-destination typically 24-48 hours.
Do you handle export documentation?
Yes, completely. We obtain phytosanitary certificates from KEPHIS (Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service), certificates of origin from Kenya Chamber of Commerce, prepare packing lists, commercial invoices, and airway bills. Our team knows requirements for all major markets.
How is temperature maintained during transport?
We use refrigerated trucks with GPS tracking and real-time temperature monitoring (2-8°C). Temperature logs are recorded every 30 minutes and included with shipment documentation. At JKIA, products transfer directly to airline cold storage facilities.
Can I visit the farms?
Yes, we arrange farm visits for serious buyers. Visit our partner farms in Naivasha, Meru, Kiambu, or Nakuru to see growing conditions, meet farmers, inspect quality control processes, and understand our traceability system. Contact us to schedule.
What payment terms do you offer?
We accept various payment methods: Letter of Credit (LC), bank wire transfer, and for established buyers, net 30-day terms. Prices are in USD. We can also arrange trade finance through our banking partners for larger orders.
